Julian Charrière and Andreas Greiner visited 28 different locations spanning across Germany and Switzerland. In sterile boxes containing white nutrition media they collected air borne microorganisms from each territory. Within sealed glass vitrines in the exhibition space the microbes slowly grew, changing their colour, shape and size; these colonies of mold formed unique topographies – a microbic photography of each place. The vitrines were arranged as a bacterial map of the artists’ home countries, mirroring the original coordinates and altitudes. Dominions are created by controlled growth of specific microorganisms – similar to the way human infrastructure controls these sampled landscapes.
